About Us

We are all descended from one Joseph Bosfield who came to this country from Scotland. It would be interesting to find out how he came to be here and why he ended up staying here and not returning to his birth place; or did He? From all indications he left a legacy that endures to this day. I am of the opinion he would be proud of how his family turned out. The outpouring of support for this event is tremendous. We are finding out, almost daily, families who are linked to this name and who are indicating their presence at next year’s activities.

The name Bosfield has played an integral role in the life of this country since his arrival.  A Bosfield of note was Samuel, co editor of a newspaper along with one Stephen Dillet in the 1850’s that championed equality for non whites in the colony. The method of jury selection for matters before the courts was challenged by this paper and other groupings resulting in its expansion to include people of colour and non whites. A store named Bosfield & Brothers was indicated in a Directory of establishments of commerce in Nassau in the mid 1800’s

When we meet next year, Lord willing, let us celebrate the life of our forbears and embrace the atmosphere of what it means to have this common link that will make us stronger.  This effort to bring together as many of us should continue and gain momentum as the years unfold.  It is said “when we know our roots we give our children wings to fly”.
